TRUCKFACE #8

by LB

More funny drawings & words from everyone’s favorite zinester, LB! This issue of Truckface was written after a bicycle accident that left LB with a broken arm and only one hand to make the zine. It is made up of stories of travel and a summer spent unemployed, drinking games, gender identity and a poor understanding of Polish. Another amazing publication by LB!

TRUCKFACE #9/NO BETTER VOICE #31

by LB & Jami

A split zine has never been more perfect than this. It is difficult to write the kind of stuff that gets your reader to actually laugh out loud, but Jami & LB are pros at it. Both writers focus on the year 1994, a year of retainers & braces, maladjusted best friends, pre-teen punk rockers and blundering journeys into unwanted womanhood. LB writes, “This is dedicated and about the year 1994. Because without that tumultuous year, I’d probably be really successful right now.”

TRUCKFACE #10

by LB

LB regales the reader with anecdotes of retail hell and back fat-pinching bosses, turning XXL man panties into a fashion-forward tunic, peeing her pants, and traveling through the country by train. Once again, Luran’s weirdly stunning drawings pepper the zine, illustrating the strange encounters she had in 2007.

TRUCKFACE #11

by LB

LB no longer works in retail, but her new jobs still provide inspiration for Truckface. Subtitled “Adult Times”, LB’s pursuing a career as a teacher. As she works on getting her credentials by assistant teaching in Chicago’s public schools, Luran encounters marginalized kids who developed bad attitudes as a way to cope with how they’ve been treated by the system. While working at the library, LB deals with the surly librarians and stumbles upon vulgar ghosts that scribble about their sexual prowess on abandoned desks. LB commits the funny moments and the difficult moments of both her careers in this zine.

TRUCKFACE #12

by LB

Issue #12 chronicles LB’s difficulties becoming an authority figure when she’s always rejected them. A teacher at inner-city schools in Chicago, LB encounters challenging students but even more challenging teachers, ones who often would rather just write off the kids as stupid than try to actually teach. Despite how hard it can be, LB always tries to make a difference. Another amazing installment of Truckface!

TRUCKFACE #13

by LB

LB writes in the introduction: “This is Truckface #13, detailing an unlucky first year of teaching. All names have been changed. Mistakes have been mad. Disasters were not averted”. Even better, all of the drawings in this issue are re-creations of student works. LB’s stories are honest, and not always heart-warming. However, her style of writing is unlike any other and will leave you angry with the inner-city school systems, but laughing and hopeful at the same time.

WHORE EYES #1 & #2 w/ THE FAILURE COMP

curated by Keenan Marshall Keller

Keenan Marshall Keller of Drippy Bone Books wants to present the work of artists to the masses at any cost, which is why he put together this amazing set of two full-color glossy issues of Whore Eyes and a compilation CD of some pretty fantastic musicians. Whore Eyes #1 features artwork by Mario Zoots (one third of Drippy Bone Books), Shannon Keller and David Magdaleno. Mario’s work consists mainly of chunky, colorful collage, while Shannon’s emphasizes line and detail in her surreal renderings of figures. David’s work utilizes a variety of mediums and a child-like style, pulling inspiration from skateboard graphics and day of the dead.

Issue #2 of Whore Eyes features work by Kristy Foom (the third partner of Drippy Bone), Keenan Marshall Keller and Actually Huizenga. Foom’s mixed media collages are lush and colorful, contrasting with Keenan’s stark, mostly black and white illustrations that are tinged with a kind of comic-book horror. Actually creates a bizarre but humorous kind of furry porn for her art work, strange enough on it’s own but even stranger coming from a female artist. The Failure compilation is a 11 track CD featuring songs that sample Hasil Adkins, metal jams that will transport you to a backyard show in East LA, and experimental music that will leave you wanting more. This is a very exciting publication that you don’t want to miss out on.

Two 22 page full-color issues, one 11-track CD, half letter size.
